Here are the results of the
2015 Extreme Benchrest™ Competition!
As we finish off another successful event, we would like to give special recognition to all the clubs, vendors and individuals who helped make this the best Extreme Benchrest event to date! We also would like to recognize every competitor who traveled from near to far locations to come support our event and share in the fun! This year was even more exciting as we ran a 4-Day shoot and added events to make it even more enjoyable for all. For 2015 we relocated back to Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club in Mesa, AZ because of the huge support and focus they have given to airgunning in the Phoenix area. Due to the increasing number of competitors we needed a facility with larger, and multiple ranges, and this venue was perfect! The event started off with a full 40-shot Extreme Field Target course, shot throughout the natural desert terrain. The course was EXTREME in difficulty and the warm weather proved to demand a physical element as well.
The 2nd day started with the Outdoor Speed Silhouette relays to allow each shooter 3 qualifying times, and a chance to enter the final Speed Silhouette event on the last day. The pellets were flying at alarming rates, and targets were getting blasted across a 20-lane range! This year we saw some fierce competition in this event, and average times were down from previous years. Following the Speed relays, we had a Card 1 qualifier event at 75-Yards for the first of 2 Cards which determined the competitors for the final round. Shooters each shot their card in one of 4 relays, and remained in the same relay for the following day.
Day 3 started with a proper 25M Benchrest competition, shot on 3 cards. This is the event which holds to traditional benchrest, except that all competitors shot in the Unlimited Class, so no equipment rules separated the shooters. As the relays finished up, the Phoenix Benchrest club ran the targets through their state-of-the-art Orion electronic scoring system, and by the following relay, scored targets from the prior relay were already coming out! Needless to say, the match ran very smooth and there was buzz all around regarding who was winning, who shot best, etc! Later in the day we ran Card 2 of the 75-Yard Extreme Benchrest event. This card and the prior day’s card were scored and combined to determine the leaders from each relay. The top 10 from each were moved on to compete for the final competition and to determine the 2015 Champion! Meanwhile, throughout the day, the Indoor 10M Pistol shoot was running nearby, giving competitors much to do all day! Later that evening everyone retired to a nearby clubhouse to hear keynote speeches from the industry gurus, and results were announced to declare the finals competitors.
The final day kicked off strong, with our exciting new event, the 200-Yards Extreme Big Bore Competition! Shooters were launching slugs down range with wind howling and light rain threatening to make their jobs miserable! Regardless of the conditions, these competitors held focus and hammered out some amazing scores! Without missing a beat, the event turned back to the action packed Speed Silhouette finals, and the competitors were running on pure adrenaline as they loaded and blasted the steel animals like mad! The fun in this event is that everything happens live, with shooters and standers-by all witnessing the fun. When the first shooter buzzed in, the champion was immediately identified, and the rest of the pack were right behind! As soon as it started it was over, and we were on to 100-Yards for the Extreme Benchrest championship. The wind was there to show its support, and the challenge was on for the qualified shooters! The results of this card would determine the champion and who’s name would hang on the event plaque for all of time! Before this was announced, everyone gathered their gear, cleaned up and headed over for the awards ceremony and delicious banquet meal.
Everyone who came and played seemed to enjoy themselves throughout the 4 days of fierce competition! There was tons of airgun talk, friendly side-bets, story-telling and all around good times had by all! Thanks again to everyone for making the 5th Annual Event the absolute best Extreme Benchrest competition to date!
